Reiss Nelson, Joe Willock and Ainsley Maitland-Niles were just three of the Arsenal players that appeared for the Gunners last season after graduating from the club's academy, while Spurs rank highly in the study with Harry Kane and Harry Winks making a name for themselves in the first team.

Manchester United, who scored a weighted total of 217, come out on top in the study, with Arsenal's score of 196 leaving them in second ahead of Spurs (185), Chelsea (168) and Liverpool (147).

"This means that a young player and their parents have little objective basis on which to judge whether it is in their interests to join a club’s Academy, or to form a view about which Academy is likely to be better for them if they are fortunate enough to receive attention from more than one.

A weighting has then been applied based on whether the players had appeared in the Premier League (x5), Championship (x4), League One (x3), League Two (x2) and National League (no weighting) during the 2017/18 campaign.

Unsurprisingly, the study has found that category one academies produced more Premier League players than all the other categories put together.
