Arsenal chasing £20m Nicolas Tagliafico summer transfer

Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico has once again emerged as a transfer target for Arsenal.

That's according to the Sun who claim Gunners head coach Mikel Arteta is lining up a £20m deal for the Argentina international in a move that would allow Bukayo Saka to return to his natural position further forward.

Furthermore, the report states that Tagliafico is open to the idea of joining the north London outfit, and believed to want to test himself in the Premier League next season.

The good news is that Tagliafico has an agreement with Ajax to leave this summer, but director of football Edwin van der Sar has recently stated that any deal won't be cheap.

"Last year, we made verbal agreements with [Andre] Onana, [Nicolas] Tagliafico and Van de Beek to stay another season, and then we look to help each other and find the next step in their careers," Van der Sar said earlier in the month.

"Nothing has changed.

"There won't be a 50 per cent discount. The clubs can forget about that.

"In January last year, people said we were going to lose seven or eight players but we lost only two key members.

"The big clubs such as Bayern Munich have said the benchmark fee will go down in the next few transfer windows. But it's easier for them to say because they are the buyers.

"Of course, the 150m-200m euros transfers are gone.

"But I think there is still a lot of value for players who come from Ajax.

"Well educated, experienced in winning and playing European football."

Considering Tagliafico signed a new deal with Ajax last summer coupled with his agent claiming Ajax would ask for "more than €20million [£17m]", it's likely £20m won't be enough when the transfer window reopens.

The Gunners have also been linked with another left-back in Paris Saint-Germain's Layvin Kurzawa.

The Frenchman is out of contract this summer and would certainly be a cheaper alternative to Tagliafico.
