Arsenal are reportedly confident they will be able to secure an agreement with Real Madrid to extend Dani Ceballos’ loan spell at the Emirates.

Ceballos is currently contracted to the Gunners until June 30, having joined from Los Blancos on a season-long loan last summer.

But it is unclear when the Premier League campaign will finish, with the English top-flight currently suspended until April 30.

The league's 20 clubs will meet next month to discuss a plan of action, with it expected the season will have to be played behind closed doors in order to finish it before the end of June.

Yet the 2019-20 campaign could feasibly stretch beyond that date, with fixtures potentially needing to be played into July.

That's with the deadly virus still spreading at a rapid rate across Europe, with the UK currently on lockdown for three weeks to combat it.

And as it stands, Ceballos would not be part of the Arsenal squad were matches to stretch well into the summer months.

That would be a real blow with the Spaniard having been a regular in recent weeks under Mikel Arteta since returning from injury.

Ceballos has made 24 appearances this season, including 14 in the Premier League, scoring one goal and providing two assists.

The Spain international would have likely made in excess of 30 outings for the Gunners if not for a muscle injury which ruled him out for 11 games.

But the Evening Standard say Arsenal are confident they will be able to extend Ceballos’ loan.

It is reported that no formal talks have yet taken place but that Arsenal chiefs are relaxed about the situation because they do not believe Real would be against an extension.

The 23-year-old is happy in London under Arteta, despite having sought an exit in January after growing frustrated under Unai Emery.

But he fought his way back into the reckoning after Arteta replaced the sacked Emery, and the former recently admitted he is delighted with what Ceballos is producing.

"We haven't had any discussions about it [a permanent deal]," the 37-year-old head coach said earlier this month.

"I'm really happy with Dani and what he's bringing to the team right now.

"It took him a while after his injury to get to the level that he has and that I've seen in the past. He's performing much better now and that's why he's playing much more games."

Arsenal do not have an option in Ceballos’ loan deal to make the move permanent, with the player harbouring ambitions of being a mainstay at the Bernabeu.

But administrators and clubs are currently looking at the legal ramifications of deals continuing past the end of June.

It is expected a compromise will be found to ensure clubs do not lose players before the end of the season.
