After it was confirmed that Holding had suffered ACL damage, Goodchild added: "ACL rupture... season finished.

He sent an initial tweet reading: "I hope Rob Holding's injury is nothing too serious.

Holding was forced off on a stretcher after sustaining a knee injury in the first half of the Gunners' 2-2 draw with Manchester United on the weekend.

Holding sent a message to his Gunners team-mates, the club's backroom staff and the fans on Friday in a bid to stay upbeat.

"Thank you for all the support from players, staff and fans."
