Arsenal have confirmed that Alexandre Lacazette will be out for ‘several weeks’ due to an ‘ongoing ankle injury’.

Lacazette first felt the ankle problem during Arsenal’s pre-season friendly with Lyon and subsequently missed the side’s 1-0 victory over Newcastle on the opening weekend of the Premier League campaign.

The Frenchman returned for the Gunners’ win at home to Burnley before dropping to the bench away to Liverpool the following weekend.

After starting and scoring in Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham, it was assumed Lacazette had fully recovered from his ankle injury but the striker is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

‘Alex has been playing through this injury for several weeks.

‘He is likely to be back in action in October.’
