Having scored two goals to help Arsenal win the FA Cup for the 14th time in their rich and colourful history, few would have been able to predict that the most challenging aspect of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's evening would be working out how to actually lift the famous old trophy.

But the striker, who netted both of Arsenal's goals in a 2-1 win over Chelsea in Saturday's final at Wembley, could not quite work out how to lift it.

With strict social distancing rules in place, Arsenal's players and staff were asked to lift the FA Cup on the Wembley turf opposed to high up in the stands, meaning nobody was allowed to officially hand over the trophy.

That meant that Aubameyang, sporting the captain's armband, had to take the FA Cup off of its plinth himself and carry it over to where his teammates, the Gunners' coaching staff and Mikel Arteta were positioned ready to celebrate laying their hands on the prize.

However, the former Borussia Dortmund striker, who had scored twice against Manchester City in the semi-final to book a second visit of the season to Wembley, could not quite master how to lift the trophy.

When all together, the FA Cup is made up of three parts; the base, the cup itself and the lid. Usually, the FA Cup is lifted by the handles, with the lid still on, meaning it comes away from the base.

Aubameyang, though, thought he had to lift the base as well, meaning he carried the whole trophy over to where his teammates were before, inevitably, dropping one of the most famous trophies in world football.

Moments before dropping it, however, BT Sport's cameras were able to pick up every word that Aubameyang said when trying to lift the trophy off the plinth.

"Whoops," Aubameyang said when attempting to take the cup away from its base, as he should have done. "How it works?," Aubameyang then asked one of the FA officials.

They told him to leave the base, but Aubameyang clearly misunderstood the instruction, as he lifted the whole of the trophy before looking across to his teammates and saying, "it is really heavy!"

In the end, the weight of the trophy proved too much for Aubameyang as he, of course, dropped the FA Cup, which prompted him to put his hands on his head.

Fortunately for the striker, though, he did not cause any damage to one of the most famous trophies in sport.
