Arsenal are among the Premier League clubs to have written to Court of Arbitration for Sport to try and prevent Manchester City playing in next season's Champions League.

The hearing of City's appeal against a two-year ban from all UEFA has had to be delayed due to the coronavirus epidemic.

It has been suggested that if it is not held in time for next season, with the qualifying stages of the 2020-21 Champions League beginning in early July, then City's ban could be pushed back by 12 months.

Only Sheffield United and of course City themselves did not vote to try and prevent City keeping their spot in the Champions League.

The Mail say City declined to comment on the matter but that Etihad chiefs have a suspicion that other rivals are leading their charge against them.

"For too long, City have been able to get away with breaching the rules at the expense of at least one other club that has been unable to get into the Champions League."

Arsenal could of course stand to profit should City miss out on next season's Champions League.
