Nasri was making his Premier League debut for West Ham against Arsenal at the London stadium.

The fixture was the Frenchman’s first match in the competition for three years, after spells at Sevilla and Antalyaspor.

Mesut Ozil was not named in the Arsenal squad for the London derby, something that is becoming increasingly common under Unai Emery.

The first half ended goalless after Declan Rice missed a great chance to put the Hammers ahead.

Rice made up for this miss in the second-half after Nasri rolled the ball to the 19-year-old inside the Arsenal box after Granit Xhaka’s scuffed clearance.

The goal gave former France international Nasri his first Premier League assist of the season after just 48 minutes.

Ozil on the other hand, has made 13 appearances in the league for the Gunners this term - scoring three goals.

Despite being one of the top goal-creators in the country over the past few seasons - he has only set up one.

In the previous three campaigns Ozil has notched nine, eight and 19 assists, but has only managed one after 22 games this term, an average of one assist every 981 minutes.

Before the game Nasri admitted that he nearly decided to retire during his ban from football.

“I lost one year of my career that just went like that and at one point they were talking about a four-year suspension,” Nasri said.

“A lot of things went through my mind. I thought my career was over, so having this second chance makes me lucky.”
