Arsenal will benefit from Jeff Reine-Adelaide’s move from Angers to Lyon thanks to the 20 per cent sell-on clause they agreed when he left the Emirates last year.

The midfielder impressed in Ligue 1 last season and is now set to join Lyon for £23m, with a possible £2.3m in add-ons, reports the Evening Standard.

The Gunners secured the sell-on clause when he signed permanently for Angers last summer so are set to earn around £5m from the move this year.

The 21-year-old never made a league appearance for Arsenal between signing from Lens in 2015 and returning to France in 2018.

However, he impressed with Angers, making 30 appearances last season in all competitions, scoring three goals.

Such have been his performances that he has secured a move from Angers, a club that finished 13th in Ligue 1, to Lyon who will be competing in the Champions League group stages this season.

Reine-Adelaide spoke to Goal in June about his departure from Arsenal: ‘It is true that I would like to speak a little less of Arsenal. I was young. It was complicated.

‘There was so much competition that it was difficult to get into the coach’s line-up.

‘He [Emery] told me that the club did not rely too much on me. I took a blow, but Angers was on the lookout. It was a new chance, a new beginning.

‘The train does not pass often and I was happy to get back in the right car.’
