Arsenal are set to miss out on their No1 managerial candidate Brendan Rodgers.

The recommendations of the four man panel will then be taken to owner Stan Kroenke and his son Josh, an Arsenal director, who will then rubber stamp the appointment.

Arsenal also have Manchester City No2 Mikel Arteta on their list and the former Arsenal midfielder would be ready to move into management despite missing out on the job in 2018 when Arsenal appointed Unai Emery.

The club fear they will not be able to lure Rodgers away from Leicester City despite the former Liverpool boss having a £14m get-out clause in his contract.

Leicester boss Rodgers has already made it clear he is happy at the King Power Stadium, he is under contract until 2022 and has built one of the most exciting squads in the Premier League as they are pushing for a Champions League place.

Rodgers has a long standing admiration of Arsenal but, after taking soundings, they believe the timing is wrong and that they will not be able to get him.

Arsenal were interested in Rodgers in 2018 but there were fears about how fans would perceive his appointment after his exit from Liverpool in 2015.
