Ceballos is set to leave the Bernabeu this summer in search of regular first-team football.

The midfielder has been heavily linked with Tottenham but Spanish publication Eldesmarque claim their north London rivals have firmed up their own interest with an official offer.

Signing him would take a huge chunk out of manager Unai Emery’s transfer budget as he is known to have limited funds available.

However, signing a new midfielder is a high priority following Aaron Ramsey’s exit at the end of last season.

Ceballos, 22, is highly-rated despite struggling to break through at Real and recently starred for Spain as they won the Under-21 European Championships.

He has made no secret of his desire for more action and admitted last month that he might be forced to look elsewhere.

“I’ve always said I have four-year contract with Real Madrid, but it is true that I'm happy playing football,” he said.

“That's when I feel important in the field and with confidence when everything is much easier.

“The next year I want to play 40 games and aspire to win.”

Previous reports have suggested he might be available on loan and that could suit cash-strapped Arsenal.

As well as a midfielder, Emery needs a winger, a left-back and probably a centre-back after club captain Laurent Koscielny went on strike.

Celtic star Kieran Tierney is understood to be their top left-back target but talk of a move has gone quiet for now.

In their search for a new wide man, Arsenal have already bid £40m for Wilfried Zaha but that was immediately rejected by Crystal Palace who are holding out for closer to £80m.

That will almost certainly price Arsenal out of the race so they could now turn their attention to Bournemouth winger Ryan Fraser.

He is about to enter the final year of his contract and would cost around £25m if the Cherries are willing to sell.

However, manager Eddie Howe might be willing to let him run down his contract and let him leave for free next summer.
