Arsenal are on alert as Carlo Ancelotti is in danger of the sack at Napoli after going eight games without a win in all competitions.

Napoli were beaten at home by Bologna in Serie A on Saturday which makes it six draws and two defeats in their last eight matches.

Ancelotti’s men are down in seventh in Serie A and already 17 points behind league leaders Inter Milan with any possibility of a title challenge seemingly out of the window already.

The Sun reports that the former Chelsea manager is now on the brink and could be given the boot after his team’s final Champions League group stage game, against Genk next Tuesday.

The veteran coach is not looking to leave his current club and is reportedly adamant that he can get back to winning ways, but that decision could be taken out of his hands.

If he were to be fired then Arsenal would be extremely interested in bringing him to north London and take the permanent manager’s job at the Emirates.

A deal for the Italian would become all the more attractive were he to be sacked by Napoli as he would then be available free of charge.

While Ancelotti is one of a number of names in the hat to be the next permanent Gunners boss, he is not considered anything like the favourite with the bookmakers.

Current interim manager Fredide Ljungberg is widely considered the favourite to take the reins permanently, while Massimiliano Allegri, Mikel Arteta and Brendan Rodgers are all shorter prices than Ancelotti.

This could change if he leaves Napoli, though, and some reports suggest that they are already scouting out his replacement, with former AC Milan manager Gennaro Gatuso in the frame.
