Arsenal targets Brendan Rodgers and Nuno Espirito Santo have been urged to snub the chance to replace Unai Emery at the Emirates by West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini.

The Gunners, currently eighth in the Premier League, are looking for a replacement for Emery after sacking the Spaniard last week.

Former Arsenal midfielder Freddie Ljungberg has been placed in charge of the club on a temporary basis but Rodgers and Nuno have emerged as candidates to take over from Emery on a full-time basis.

Ex-Liverpool and Celtic manager Rodgers has impressed at Leicester City, with the Foxes currently second in the Premier League, while Nuno has been hailed for his work at Wolves.

Wolves face West Ham this evening and Hammers boss Pellegrini said: ‘I don’t think a serious manager can leave a club for another during the season.

‘That’s what I think. So, for me, I think it would be strange. Maybe it’s honour, responsibility.

‘Maybe it is easier for you to be sacked. But for me I will never leave a club because I have a better option in a good moment.

‘It’s exactly the same as Brendan Rodgers. Both managers are in a good moment and I don’t think they would throw it all out for another option.

‘In my way of thinking, I think it’s impossible for me to do it. So I don’t think that they will do it.’

In the first match of the post-Emery era, Arsenal drew 2-2 with Premier League relegation-battlers Norwich City on Sunday.

The Gunners return to action on Thursday evening with a home match against Brighton.

Ahead of the clash, interim boss Ljungberg said: ‘Brighton look good, they change formations a lot, so we will see what they come with.

What Freddie Ljungberg has said privately about Unai Emery's tactics at Arsenal

‘They try to play out,  defend well, they look very organised but for me we need to concentrate on our own game.

‘We play at home so I take into account how I think they will play but I have to develop the gameplan how we want to play football and that’s what I try to concentrate on.’

Asked whether he will make changes for the visit of Brighton, Ljungberg added: ‘We’ll need to look at the fitness levels of the players and who’s fit, who isn’t. We have some players who were still injured before. We’ll see.’
