Arsene Wenger says Manchester City and Pep Guardiola will be ‘devastated’ after their defeat to Premier League title rivals Liverpool.

Defending champions City were beaten 3-1 at Anfield on Sunday afternoon to slip nine points behind Jurgen Klopp’s unbeaten Reds.

Brazilian midfielder Fabinho gave Liverpool the lead with a superb strike, just 22 seconds after Manchester City were denied a strong penalty shout.

Mohamed Salah doubled the hosts’ advantage on 13 minutes, and Sadio Mane put the game to bed shortly after half-time with another header.

Bernardo Silva pulled one back for Manchester City but Liverpool held on to win 3-1 and move eight points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Reacting to Liverpool’s win over City, former Arsenal boss Wenger said: ‘First of all, to lose a big game is terrible.

Klopp, meanwhile, speaking after his team’s impressive performance, said: ‘They were good. Oh they were good and we had to defend with all we had but we scored incredible goals.

‘It was so tough to play, the intensity of the game was so clear. It was all worth it, really great. The boys were completely focused and concentrated.

‘It was so good. It is the only way we can beat City, maybe other teams can do it a different way but this is the only way we can beat them.’
