Mikel Arteta has told Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang he can get him used to picking up trophies if he stays at Arsenal, after the forward dropped the FA Cup.

Arsenal won the FA Cup for the 14th time on Saturday by coming from behind against Chelsea, with Aubameyang striking twice to cancel out Christian Pulisic’s opener.

Aubameyang was the star of the show at Wembley and was rightly named man of the match for his performance, but he was also left red-faced after the full-time whistle.

The 31-year-old was carrying the FA Cup over to his team-mates to celebrate when he dropped the trophy.

Arteta, however, has joked with Aubameyang that he can get him used to lifting trophies if he stays at Arsenal.

“It (dropping the trophy) can happen. I think it happened a few years back as well,” said Arteta.

“He needs more experience with trophies. You know we can get him used to that!”

Aubameyang’s future is now the focus for Arsenal, with the forward having just under one year left to run on his current contract.

Barcelona and Inter Milan are interested in the Gabon international, but Arteta is hopeful he will sign a new deal.

“He knows what I think about him. I want to build the squad around him,” said Arteta. “I think he wants to stay and it is just about getting the deal done.

“But I think these moments will help him to realise and believe that we are in the right path and he is a big part of that.

"He is loved by everybody at the club. Hopefully he can continue with us.”
