Arsenal were reportedly willing to make a move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey over the summer – but it looks as if the Gunners have missed their best chance.

Should Arsenal have made their move for Partey?

Partey has been a consistent performer under Diego Simeone in recent campaigns, so a £44 million move over the summer could have been a shrewd piece of business.

Partey would have brought a real physical presence to the Emirates, and the Gunners could be made to regret their summer decision, especially if the midfielder pens new terms in Spain.

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, cited by Sports Witness, Arsenal were keen on moving for the midfielder but decided against firming up their interest in what was a fairly productive window for Unai Emery.

And now, the same report claims that the La Liga giants are desperate to offer the holding midfielder a new deal at the Wanda Metropolitano, which would see his £44 million release clause significantly increase.

Madrid are hoping to agree on terms with the Ghanian before the end of the year, and if they do, it would make it extremely difficult for the Gunners to head back in for the 26-year-old should they wish to do so.
