Jack Wilshere believes Arsenal are too easy to play against and need to adopt a different approach to playing away from home.

Declan Rice’s 48th minute goal was enough to condemn Unai Emery’s side to a costly defeat which severely damaged their chances of Champions League qualification.

Arsenal have now gone five games away from home without a win and Wilshere, who was discarded by Emery during the summer, believes his old side need to toughen up if they are to arrest their recent slide.

‘When you go away from home you change your mentality,’ he told Sky Sports. ‘The most important thing is be hard to beat.

‘When you watch Arsenal at home they’re brilliant, it wasn’t that long ago they beat Tottenham. They were playing unbelievable football and everyone was saying they’ve changed.

‘Away from home though you have to change and not be easy to play through, sometimes you can play through them too easily.’

West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini, meanwhile, was delighted with a disciplined display from his team who have already beaten Manchester United on home turf this season and draw against Chelsea.

He said: ‘I was pleased with the balance and consistence of the team. We did not allow Arsenal any chances despite their quality of players. We played with a mentality of a big team, always going for the second goal.

‘We have worked in the week like the way that we want to play. The principle issue for us.

‘Declan is improving in every game. I decided for him to be a midfielder, he is playing the ball forward more, he shoots well and goes forward well. He is a complete player. I think he will be a top player in the future.’
