Nicolas Pepe must improve the basics of his game if he is to ever justify his £72million price tag, according to former Arsenal striker Jeremie Aliadiere.

Pepe was not the first choice of former Arsenal manager Unai Emery, who last week confirmed he wanted to sign Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace instead. The 24-year-old has made progress under new boss Mikel Aretea but Aliadiere, whose six-year spell at Arsenal was hindered by a series of injuries, has regularly been left frustrated by Pepe's inconsistent performances.
