Manchester City have issued a statement in regards to an FFP investigation which could see them banned from playing Champions League football next season.

As things stand Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea will join Man City in the Champions League.

Should the Gunners lose the Europa League final in Baku against Chelsea later this month, they would be the most likely to fill City's spot in next season's Champions League through their Premier League position.

The newly crowned Premier League champions are subject to allegations of financial irregularities as the club are said to have agreed inflated sponsorship deals to allow the Abu Dhabi royal family to put extra money into the club.

Sources for the football governing body say Man City could be banned from the Champions League next season if they are found guilty to have broken the rules, although English clubs will retain their quota of four places in the competition according to regulations.

A statement via the club's official website reads: "Manchester City Football Club is disappointed, but regrettably not surprised, by the sudden announcement of the referral to be made by the CFCB IC Chief Investigator Yves Leterme.
