Mikel Arteta says he expects Arsenal to tie down Bukayo Saka to a new deal amid reported interest from Manchester United and Liverpool. Saka made his debut for Arsenal last season but it’s this year where he has really made an impact for the first team.

The 18-year-old has played on the left-wing and in recent weeks deputised impressively at left-back.

Saka is a product of Arsenal’s Hale End academy and highly regarded with the club.

But his sudden impact in the first-team has been somewhat of a surprise and his progression has caught the club off guard.

As a result, his current deal ends in 2021 and with 18 months left, rival teams are said to keeping their eye on the situation.

Arteta has made no secret of his admiration for Saka and youngster has been similarily effusive about the coach.

And the Spaniard says it is now up to the Arsenal board to tie Saka and other young players to new long-term deals.

“I’m really happy with how they are developing," he said.

"Part of that development is to improve their contract and tie them to the club.

"But I have to follow a natural process. We have Edu, Raul, Vinai and Huss who are in charge of that.

"And I'm sure we will do the right thing when players deserve to improve and extend their contract."
