Manchester United will do whatever it takes to land their dream defensive partner for Harry Maguire, while Steven Gerrard is wanted overseas, according to Saturday’s newspapers.

Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s primary 2020 transfer target for Manchester United, according to reports.

Solskjaer is firmly in the belief that a solid foundation at the back is the way to help return United to former glories and the Daily Express claims Senegal powerhouse Koulibaly is their No 1 priority next summer – and could even forward plans in January if Napoli give them any sniff of a deal.

Despite spending the best part of £130m to sign Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer, Solskjaer and United are willing to part with as much as £100m to recruit Koulibaly – and plan to offer Napoli an impossible-to-resist package for the 28-year-old.

United have also been linked with Benfica’s Ruben Dias but the Portuguese youngster appears destined to move to Manchester City.
