Of all the business Arsenal may do during the current transfer window, nothing will eclipse tying Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang down to a new contract.

Since Mikel Arteta was placed in charge back in December, the forward’s role in the team has only grown and he fully established himself as Arsenal’s talisman and leader last season.

Aubameyang scored both goals in the FA Cup semi-final victory over Manchester City and again struck twice as the Gunners beat Chelsea in the final, which only underlined just how vital he is to Arsenal.

Arteta knows this more than anyone and keeping the 31-year-old has always been the key cog of his rebuild.

It shouldn’t be underestimated how much of a coup this is for Arsenal as they have managed to tie down their best player in the wake of their worst Premier League finish for 25 years.

The past decade has seen the club’s star players leaving and seeking glory elsewhere, with Alexis Sanchez, Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie prime examples.
