Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has underlined his commitment to the north London club by signing a new contract.

The club captain had entered the final 12 months of his previous deal and offered only a coy response to questions over his future following the Community Shield win over Liverpool earlier this month.

But the 31-year-old has finally ended months of speculation by nailing his colours to the Gunners mast and will continue to play a lead role in the rebuilding job currently being undertaken by head coach Mikel Arteta.

‘I’m so happy a bit nervous so many people here. people were asking me to sign da ting and it’s finally done,’ said Aubameyang.

‘I’m so happy to stay here this is my home. As you know, i’m so happy here. It’s a great day. I hope you enjoy your day.

‘I signed da ting because I wanted to become an Arsenal legend and leave a legacy. It’s the time to work a lot to become a legend, but for sure I will work hard and give my best.’

Despite Arsenal’s struggles last season, Aubaeyang enjoyed another stellar individual campaign, scoring 29 goals in all competitions and inherited the armband from Granit Xhaka after the Switzerland international was demoted following an altercation with his own fans during a game against Crystal Palace last October.

Aubameyang, who was on the scoresheet during his side’s opening day 3-0 win over Fulham, joined Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018 in what was then a club record £56million transfer.

Overall, the prolific striker has scored 79 goals in 111 appearances in all competitions and cemented his status as one of European football’s most prolific forwards.

The likes of Chelsea, Barcelona and Juventus were reported to have registered an interest in signing the former Saint-Etienne star but the remaining peak years of his career will now be played out in north London.
