Ray Parlour says he would ‘love’ to see Mauricio Pochettino manage Arsenal, but believes the Argentine will likely end up at Manchester United.

Arsenal sacked Unai Emery in the wake of their 2-1 defeat at home to Eintracht Frankfurt last week which summed up the side’s miserable start to the campaign on all fronts.

Freddie Ljungberg has taken charge on a temporary basis and oversaw the Gunners’ 2-2 draw away to Norwich in the Premier League at the weekend.

The Swede will also lead the team on Wednesday evening when the north London giants play host to Brighton at the Emirates.

While Arsenal have every confidence in Ljungberg succeeding as caretaker boss, several managerial targets remain under consideration.

Asked to rank Arsenal’s options, club legend Parlour told talkSPORT: ‘Number one – I don’t think he’ll go to Arsenal – but I would love to see him there, is Pochettino but I think he goes to Manchester United first, if I’m honest.

‘Number two, definitely, is Brendan Rodgers – I think he’s done a great job at Leicester and he’d improve Arsenal.

‘Number three would be Max Allegri with his experience. Certainly fourth would be Nuno Espirito Santo. Wolves, he’s done a brilliant job there, as well

‘Freddie would be my fifth. And, believe it or not, the favourite is Arteta in getting the job, and he’d be the last choice for me. No experience.’

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has backed Ljungberg to produce ‘something special’ during his time in the hot seat.

‘He can give us something special,’ the striker said following Arsenal’s draw at Carrow Road.

‘If I’m not wrong, he was part of the Invincibles. His career speaks for itself. We will try to follow him and give the best for him.
