Arsene Wenger was so rattled by Arsenal's regular struggles against Stoke that he raised the idea of throw-ins being banned, while referees and linesmen were asked to measure the length of the grass at the Britiannia Stadium after the Frenchman wrote a letter of complaint to the Football Association.

Stoke was a far from a happy hunting ground for Arsenal during Tony Pulis' tenure, particularly upon their immediate return to the Premier League.

A fragile Arsenal defence was particularly susceptible to Rory Delap's infamous long throw-ins which helped Stoke win five out of eight matches at home against the Gunners between 2008 and 2014.

Wenger infamously branded Stoke a rugby team and in 2009 suggested kick-ins replace conventional throw-ins to speed the game up, but his complaints were music to the ears of Pulis.
