Arsenal boss Unai Emery has confirmed that neither Kieran Tierney nor Hector Bellerin are ready to feature against Watford.

Tierney is yet to play a single minute for Arsenal since his £25million move from Celtic on transfer deadline day, but the 22-year-old left-back returned to training alongside Bellerin this week.

The Scotland international has been out of action since May after undergoing a double hernia operation and a knee injury further complicated his recovery.

Bellerin, meanwhile, has been sidelined after sustaining cruciate knee ligament injury during the Gunners’ 2-2 draw with Chelsea back in January.

Emery claims that Tierney and Bellerin have trained ‘normally’ but neither will be available for this weekend’s clash with Watford at the Emirates.

‘We need to look at the next steps in each training and also if we decide to play with U23s,’ Emery said when asked about Bellerin and Tierney.

‘They did this week the first time training normally with us.

‘We want the next week to take the normality training with us. After that week we can decide.’

Despite injury scares during the international break, Emery confirmed that both Lucas Torreira and Granit Xhaka are ‘ready’ to face Watford.

However, Rob Holding must wait for his chance in the first-team following his cruciate knee ligament injury.

‘[Holding] earned matches with U23s,’ Emery said.

‘With more minutes with U23 he can be closer to give us his performance.

‘At the moment we are working with three centre-backs, thinking on Sunday, now four. Rob is now the five, [Konstantinos] Mavropanos the sixth.’
